Home Solar Power
Enviro Saver asked:
Can you use solar power at home? Yes, you can. Many people already have. It is becoming more popular all the time for people to install solar panels on their homes, so they can save on heat and electricity while being friendlier to the environment. Many will argue that it is still too expensive to install at this point. For many people it is not an option because they are renting their home, or it really is too expensive; however, if you do own your home and have the funds to do such a thing, then it would almost be a crime not to for a couple of reasons. The first is that you could be helping the environment and helping to ensure a better future for your kids by leaving behind a healthier environment for them to live in. The second is that every month you are paying electricity bills when you could have converted your home to run on solar power and save your money in the long run.
How does solar power work? It is really as simple as it sounds. In simple terms, the energy from the sun is absorbed by the solar panels on a home and then converted for household use. Alright, maybe it is a little more complex than that. Basically, each solar panel is created by placing silicon underneath unreflective glass. When put together like this, the panel collects the energy, or photons, from the sun. Next, the energy flows from the panel into an inverter, which converts the energy into the proper form for household use.
Will using solar power help to reduce the effects of global warming? Let’s look at it this way. For every house that turns to solar power, it means one less house is using the energy that puts more carbon into the air. The carbon that would have been put into the air, if the house did not turn to solar power use, would have contributed to the global warming. So, the answer would be yes. Using solar power can help to reduce the effects of global warming by reducing the carbon emissions being pumped into the air every day. As time goes on, scientists continue to work on improving solar technology and finding ways to make it more affordable, so that it can be available to more people. It is hoped that someday solar energy will be used and today’s way of getting energy will be something of the past.
